Swiss films screened in programme at Dokufest in Prizren (Kosovo)
Swiss filmmaking will be showcased with 19 Swiss film productions at the 10th Dokufest International Documentary and Short Film Festival held in the city of Prizren, Kosovo (July 23-31, 2011). The “Made in Switzerland” programme is comprised of 16 films and was initiated by the Dokufest in collaboration with SWISS FILMS. The feature-length documentary film “Day Is Done” by Thomas Imbach will be screened in the International Competition and “Stick Climbing” by Daniel Zimmermann in the Short Film Competition.
Swiss filmmaking will be honoured for the first time with an impressive homage in Prizren, the second largest city after Pristina in the Republic of Kosovo. The eight award-winning feature-length documentary films showcased in the "Made in Switzerland" programme include: "Aisheen (Still Alive In Gaza)" (2010) by Nicolas Wadimoff; "An African Election" (2010) by Jarreth Merz; "La forteresse" (2008) by Fernand Melgar; and "Nomad's Land" (2008) by Gaël Métroz. Among the seven short films of all genres screened in "Made in Switzerland" are the successful short and animation film productions: "Auf der Strecke" (2007) by Reto Caffi; "Ich bin's Helmut" (2009) by Nicolas Steiner; "Yuri Lennon's Landing On Alpha 46" (2010) by Anthony Vouardoux; "Dans la peau" (2007) by Zoltán Horváth; and "Jeu" (2006) by Georges Schwizgebel.
Film directors Fernand Melgar and Daniel Zimmermann will present their works personally at the Dokufest. The open-air screenings every evening are one of the festival highlights. Veton Nurkollari, artistic director of the festival, is well acquainted with Swiss documentary filmmaking and has selected individual Swiss films for his festival every year. The "Top 10" section (best films from the past nine editions of the Dokufest) will also present "The Sound Of Insects" by Peter Liechti and "War Photographer" (2001) by Christian Frei.
