Two Swiss films with Honourable Mention at Max Ophuels Prize Film Festival 2012

Two Swiss film productions received an Honourable Mention from the jury at the 33rd Max Ophuels Prize Film Festival in Saarbrücken: the fiction film “Mary & Johnny” by Samuel Schwarz and Julian M. Grünthal; and the short film “Korpus” by Flo Baumann. The festival, which ended on January 22, 2012, presented its main award to the fiction film “Michael” by Austrian director Markus Schleinzer.

The jury's statement for the Honourable Mention for the film "Mary & Johnny" was as follows: "The film "Mary & Johnny" is a fast-paced, austere and anarchistic film, a first-hand account of a generation seeking the meaning of life. The filmmakers and ensemble succeed in translating classical literature into a distinctive, young cinematic language in a virtuoso manner." The jury for short films explained its decision to present an Honourable Mention to "Korpus," a graduation film from the Zurich University of the Arts, as follows: "A happy ending, despite the tragic loss. Prior to that, waiting for simply a word. A grand love story. The largesse of letting go. A husband bathes his wife in scalding water. The realisation that there will no longer be answers. An attempted murder out of love. The director succeeds in depicting departure as deliverance, finding bold images and having the courage to tell of humaneness and yet not be afraid of including humour."
