International distribution of six Swiss films is granted
The cinema releases for three fiction films – “Sister” by Ursula Meier in Belgium and Luxemburg, “Hell” by Tim Fehlbaum in Poland and “Stationspiraten” by Michael Schaerer in Germany – as well as for three documentary films – “Die Kinder vom Napf” by Alice Schmid in Germany, “The Substance – Albert Hofmanns’s LSD” by Martin Witz in the Netherlands and in Germany and “Vol spécial” in France – will be subsidised with a total of CHF 73,500. With this instrument, the Federal Office of Culture (FOC), in collaboration with SWISS FILMS, improves the chances of success for Swiss film productions abroad.
The international cinema release of Swiss film productions and coproductions involving a Swiss director has been subsidised since 2007. Since this year Swiss film producers have submitted their application to the FOC together with foreign distributors. The FOC committee granted support for the distribution of six Swiss films in this year’s first round of allocations in April 2012.
Foreign distribution companies that release Swiss films in cinemas abroad receive a maximum of CHF 30,000 per film and subsidised country. Grants cannot be accumulated with the MEDIA selective support programme.
Applications are reviewed by the FOC’s Film Release and Diversity Committee, in collaboration with SWISS FILMS.
The next round of allocations is in July 2012.
