Strong Swiss presence at Hot Docs in Canada
Four Swiss film productions and coproductions will be screened at the 18th Hot Docs Documentary Film Festival in Toronto (April 28 - May 8, 2011), two of which are “Kwa Heri Mandima” and “Sira – Wenn der Halbmond spricht.” With these impressive works, Swiss documentary filmmaking will demonstrate its international status once again at this festival in North America which is important for the genre. All four Swiss productions are celebrating their Canadian premiere.
In the festival's "Next" section, director Sandra Gysi will present her film made together with Ahmed Abdel Mohsen "Sira - Wenn der Halbmond spricht" (production: Reck Filmproduktion, Zurich), which celebrated its world premiere in competition at the Visions du Réel Festival in Nyon and now commences its international festival career in Toronto. The short documentary film "Kwa Heri Mandima" by Robert-Jan Lacombe, which already won the Golden Leopard in Locarno and the award for Best Documentary Film at the Aspen Shortsfest, will be screened in the International Spectrum competition.
The film "My Reincarnation" by American director Jennifer Fox (coproduction Ventura Film, Meride) has already been screened in Leipzig, Florence and Amsterdam before celebrating its Canadian premiere in Toronto. The international coproduction "The Guantanamo Trap" by German director Thomas Selim Wallner (coproduction: T&C Film, Zurich) celebrates its world premiere in Toronto.
Hot Docs runs for eleven days and will present more than 200 films from 40 countries. With its film market and numerous industry conference sessions, the festival in Toronto ranks among the most important meeting places for documentary films.
