Le curé de la paroisse est pris d'un fou-rire chronique, incontrôlable, qui se déclenche dans les pires moments… Sermons et extrême-onctions ne sont pas épargnés. Démuni face à ce mal inconnu, il se décide à consulter un psychiatre établi dans un manoir de la campagne avoisinante, aménagé en maison de repos.
