Die 10-jährige Vittoria lebt mit ihrer Mutter in Sardinien. Die beiden haben eine sehr enge Beziehung, bis Vittoria Angelica kennenlernt, eine wilde und orientierungslose junge Frau. Vittoria ist fasziniert von dieser seltsamen Frau und verbringt hinter dem Rücken ihrer Mutter immer mehr Zeit mit ihr. Schliesslich entdeckt sie die Wahrheit: Angelica ist ihre leibliche Mutter. Die drei müssen einander verzeihen und akzeptieren, bevor sie lernen können, einander zu lieben.
