Events & Programmes
SWISS FILMS is the ambassador for Swiss film productions and bolsters the awareness of the Swiss film culture at home and abroad with film programmes and events.
Committed staff members at SWISS FILMS focus on intermediating the Swiss film culture by targeting film programmes in neighbouring countries, by collaborating with international festivals and by offering film programmes in select countries. The film programmes showcase film classics as well as current Swiss film productions. They highlight historical and present-day aspects or prominent figures in Swiss filmmaking. The programmes are realised in collaboration with institutional partners on site and in part with the Swiss Arts Council (Pro Helvetia). In addition, SWISS FILMS facilitates the cultural exchange between Swiss and international filmmakers.
The archive of film prints is utilised for distributing Swiss film productions abroad. The archive’s volume, which is constantly increasing, currently comprises approximately 1'000 films with subtitles, dating from 1923 to today.
SWISS FILMS draws the general public’s attention to Swiss filmmaking effectively in Switzerland with special events. In collaboration with the Federal Office of Culture, SRG SSR idée Suisse and the Swiss Film Academy, SWISS FILMS is responsible for organising the “Quartz” Swiss Film Prize. As the organiser of the Short Film Night, which tours throughout all of Switzerland, SWISS FIILMS presents a selection of the best national and international short films in numerous cinemas every year. In addition, the film promotion agency supports programmes featuring Swiss film productions at events which are characterised by their originality and forge the link between the linguistic regions.
