“Home” in the ranking for an Oscar
The film which will place Switzerland in the running for an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film was selected for the first time by an audience and a jury. The audience attending the mini-festival “Von Delemont nach Hollywood” viewed the submitted films from September 15-19, 2009 and selected their favourites. It comes as no surprise that Ursula Meier’s film “Home” was chosen to represent Switzerland.Since celebrating ist world premiere in the Critics’ Week at the Cannes Film Festival, “Home” has been honoured with numerous awards at international film festivals, as well as three QUARTZ awards of the Swiss Film Prize, the highest-ranking award for films in Switzerland The film, starring the internationally renowned actress Isabelle Huppert and actor Olivier Gourmet in the main roles, was the fiction film debut of the French-Swiss film director Ursula Meier, who works in Brussels, Paris and Geneva. Together with screenwriter Antoine Jaccoud, Meier tells the atypical tale of a family that lives in a small house next to an unused freeway. When this stretch of the highway is opened one day, the family’s peaceful existence is threatened and their household completely disrupted.
The film was produced by Box Productions (Switzerland), Archipel 35 (France) and Need Productions (Belgium) and has been screened in cinemas in a great number of countries. The nominations for the Academy Awards will be announced on February 2, 2010, with the award ceremony on March 7.
