Awarding of the Swiss Film Prize QUARTZ 2009
Ten QUARTZ awards were presented as the Swiss Film Prize 2009 in the KKL Luzern on March 7, 2009. The QUARTZ for «Best Fiction Film» went to «Home» by Ursula Meier (production: Box Productions, Lausanne). Her film was indeed the evening’s victorious film, for «Home» was honoured with the QUARTZ for «Best Screenplay» – by Ursula Meier and Antoine Jaccoud – and the QUARTZ for «Best Emerging Actor», which went to Kacey Mottet Klein, who played the role of the son in «Home». The QUARTZ for
«Best Documentary Film» went to «No More Smoke Signals» by Fanny Bräuning (Distant Lights Filmproduktion, Zurich). The QUARTZ for «Best Short Film» went to «Un día y nada» by Lorenz Merz (Zurich University of the Arts), and the QUARTZ for «Best Animation Film» went to «Tôt ou tard» by Jadwiga Kowalska (Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts). The QUARTZ for «Best Actress» was awarded to Celine Bolomey, who starred in the leading role of the film «Du bruit dans la tête», while
Dominique Jann was honoured with the award for «Best Actor» for his performance in the film «Luftbusiness». Marcel Vaid won the award in the new category of «Best Film Score» for the music in the film «Zara». The «Special Jury Prize» was awarded to Danilo Catti for his artistic and political commitment in «Gìu le mani».
This year marks the twelfth edition of the Swiss Film Prize QUARTZ and it was awarded for the first time within the framework of a gala event. Television moderator Susanne Kunz hosted the award ceremony in the KKL Luzern, with some 1,300 guests from culture, politics and business in attendance. The festive
ceremony was further highlighted by the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Matthias Bamert.
To signify the «Awarding of the Swiss Film Prize QUARTZ 2009» gala event, the three SRG SSR idée suisse television channels – SF zwei, TSR 1 and RSI la 1 – devoted the entire Saturday evening to the Swiss film industry. The focus of the evening programme was the award ceremony, parts of which were broadcast live from the KKL Luzern.
The award ceremony of the Swiss Film Prize QUARTZ is under the auspices of SRG SSR idée suisse, in collaboration with the Federal Office of Culture and SWISS FILMS. Further partners are the Swiss Film Academy, Solothurn Film Festival, the City of Lucerne and KKL Luzern. The awarding of the Swiss Film Prize will be held again at the KKL Luzern in 2010, namely on Saturday, March 6, 2010.
