Shanghai: Focus: “Swiss Female Filmmakers” - “Der Freund” in the competition
Ten Swiss films will be screened at the 11th Shanghai International Film Festival, the most important film festival in China, which runs from June 14-24, 2008. Along with 15 international films “Der Freund” by Micha Lewinsky will compete for the Golden Cup or Jin Jue Award. In the forum “Women´s film and Women in Film”, this year´s exclusive platform for Chinese, German and Swiss female filmmakers, four Swiss female directors of the new generation will put five of their films forward up for discussion. The festival will organize this platform along with the promotion agency SWISSFILMS, German Films and the support of Pro Helvetia.The focus “Swiss Female Filmmakers” encompasses the fiction films “Das Fraulein” by Andrea Staka, “Des épaules solides” by Ursula Meier,
“Die Herbstzeitlosen” and “Im Nordwind” by Bettina Oberli as well as “Pas douce” by Jeanne Waltz. In a dicussion forum, initiated by SWISS FILMS, Ursula Meier and Jeanne Waltz and German and Chinese female filmmakers will dicuss about films of women and women in films.
Along with the fiction film “Der Freund”, which will be presented in the presence of director Micha Lewinsky, leading character Philippe Graber and producer Bernhard Lang, the fiction films “Fuori dalle corde” by Fulvio Bernasconi, “L´autre moitié” by Rolando Colla and the animation film “Jeu” by Georges Schwizgebel will also be screened in Shanghai. Director Gesenn Rosset will introduce his graduate film “La vraie vie d´Arthur” along with leading character Roberto Bestazzoni.
The Shanghai International Film Festival counts to the twelve film festivals credited by the International Federation of Film Producers Association (FIAPF) as first rank. Among film experts it has been acknowledged as one of the most important platforms for the prospective film distribution in China. Last year, the fiction film “Vitus” has – among others – been presented in Shanghai and was released in the Chinese movies with 300 copies in the beginning of June 2008.
