«My Life as a Zucchini» is Switzerland's entry for the Oscar race
Switzerland sends the animated film “My Life as a Zucchini” (“Ma vie de Courgette”) by Claude Barras (Rita Productions, Geneva) into the running for an Oscar nomination as Foreign Language Film at the 89th Academy Awards. The US distributor GKIDS has further entered the stop-motion animation in the Best Animated Feature category.
The first full-length animation film by Swiss director Claude Barras celebrated its world premiere in May of this year at the Directors’ Fortnight in Cannes. In June, “My Life as a Zucchini” won both the Cristal for Best Feature as well as the Audience Award at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival. Among many other awards, the film also won the Audience Award for Best European Film at the San Sebastián Film Festival and the prize of the Frankfurt Book Fair for the best screen adaptation in the Films for Children and Young Adults category.
