Charming ten-year-old Doruntina, narrates the story of her mother Ullka's life and loves. As communism collapses in their native Albania, Ullka decides to flee to Switzerland, in the hope of finding her ideal man. Accompanying the mother daughter duo is Ullka's friend Mira, an actress. Despite having no visas, the intrepid friends manage to reach Switzerland with the child. Over the years, Doruntina recounts Ullka's romantic adventures with great humour as Ullka marries, but then moves on to another man. All the while Doruntina is growing up fast, developing as a singer, ready for her first concert, and maybe much more.
