Thomas Lüchinger accompanies Swiss diplomat Dominik Langenbacher to Madagascar, where a few months after his arrival, presidential elections are held. The incumbent president, whose administration is considered to be one of the most corrupt in the world, loses the election but is not willing to cede his power. As a result, the country plunges into a severe political and social crisis. While the people are forced to face hardships which increase on a daily basis, the Swiss diplomat is directly confronted with the consequences of the crisis as well. The film touches on a current note, illustrating the possibilities and limitations of international diplomacy and raising questions regarding fundamental ethical and global issues which concern us all.
