Spencer, 25 years old, thinks it is the chance of a lifetime: his first job is with a colossal commercial enterprise, “Global Corp”, where he is to replace Anderson – an employee who, under pressure, chose to leave the enormous company by jumping from the roof of the building. Assigned to the XHT-2247 staff, Spencer happily begins working with his four colleagues: Ben, 42 years old; Sydney, 60; the Japanese secretary Mitsuko, 21; and finally, Justine, 38. Despite the frigid atmosphere at “Global Corp”, Spencer easily becomes a part of the small group, where the employees fill in coloured forms between cigarette breaks. Everything changes the day a certain Taylor Hackman enters the picture. His assignment is to restructure their group, which – according to the management – is no longer productive. He will do anything to bring the employees into what he calls “the productivity zone” and to set them back on the road to profitability. The fight that Spencer, Mitsuko, Ben, Justine and Sydney put up to maintain their work goes beyond reason and common sense to the absurd, as they are pushed to the limits and humiliated atrociously by Hackman, the most perverse of consultants.
