Working for freedom is not only accomplished by statesmen. To point this out, a committee organized by politician Ruth-Gaby Vermot nominated 1000 women for the 2005 Nobel Peace Prize. The nominees included, for example, Maggie, who rescued thousands of children during the massacre in Burundi. Or Naseeb from India, whose family was murdered, and has since battled against racial hatred. Or Ellen, who . ghts for the causes of detainees in US prisons. Although the 1000 women did not receive the Nobel Prize, the commitment of women like Maggie, Naseeb or Ellen has been rendered visible – thanks to the nomination.
