An evocation in poetry and music. Thebes West stretches along the left bank of the Nile at Luxor, in Upper Egypt. Here, ancient Thebes, a traditional way of life and the modern world can rub shoulders, collide and pay each other little or no attention. The essence continues to elude the tourist hordes. Bulldozers are flattening villages built atop the ancient tombs. This evocation in poetry and music has no need for the spoken word. The magnificent images of Pio Corradi, with their unadorned strength and sensitivity, require no commentary. The voice of the poet – varying from the lyrical to the ironic and tremulous, half song and half scream – is that of the Afrogarage trio.
