Hitsch is a gnarled old grandpa; but instead of sitting in front of an alpine cabin, he is on the side of the highway. Heidi and Peter the goatherd are far away. Instead there is Zita, the dog, who guards the socks and suspenders. Hitsch is the grandfather I never had, a storyteller, a crazy guy, who has remained young at heart, but with both boots firmly on the ground. Types like Socka Hitsch should never die out. My hope is that many more will come after him – especially to places like Landquart.
