After the Second World War General Guisan was “the” Swiss national hero for an entire generation. A half-century following his death, the documentary “Der General” searches for information about him at home and abroad and questions the myth of Guisan. What was the highest Swiss military commander really like? Some colour film footage of Guisan can be seen for the first time, as well as his meeting with Benito Mussolini. The film score by André Bellmont and Rodolphe Schacher is beautifully played by Zurich’s Tonhalle Orchestra.
