Silvia wishes to get to know the young man, proposed by her father as future husband, before marrying him. So, with the consent of her father, she decides to disguise herself so as to be able to find out about this person, proposed for her but whom she does not know. For a time, she changes places with her servant Lisette. However, it transpires that Dorante, the man who is supposed to marry Silvia, has had the same idea. Silvia and Dorante thus meet wearing the clothes of their servants, whilst Arlequin and Lisette woo each other in their masters’ attire.
