On his last day of work before retirement, Inspector Hunkeler heads an assignment at the railway station in Basel, shadowing a diamond smuggler. But the covert operation fails: the diamonds vanish down the sewer system and Hunkeler’s assistant, Lüdi, is fatally wounded. When a Turkish sewage canal worker finds the precious stones, he becomes the target of corrupt gangsters. Hunkeler, now officially retired, picks up their trail and proves that he’s still got what it takes for the job.
