Nueva Esperanza is a small village in Colombia in which 680 displaced persons have found refuge. These people were tortured by the paramilitaries, guerillas and army soldiers; many of their loved ones lost their lives. The film portrays everyday life in Nueva Esperanza and the process of coming to terms with the traumatic experiences by reconstructing the past and staging their stories in self-made films. In an act of self-empowerment, they play themselves and the roles of their tormentors. The struggle against forgetting offers hope for a brighter future.
