Christoph and Hanny Poincilit have three adult children: Mathias, Alix and Zita. All three suffer from the rare genetic mutation, resulting in Niemann-Pick disease, type C. This disease often begins with concentration disturbances, followed by difficulty in coordinating movements, hearing loss, speech disorders, mental confusion – until those affected become severely disabled and invalid. Life expectancy is a maximum of 40 years. How does one deal with such a diagnosis? The film portrays this family’s everyday life shaped by a fighting spirit, hope and familial solidarity, despite their highs and lows.
