Before center forward Donald Hefti warms up on the playing field, he prepares himself assiduously as a team member: he buys a few cans of beer at the discount store and stocks up on his daily ration of methadone at the treatment center. He is on his way to the . rst training session of the Swiss national football team as one of the eighteen players mobilized by the coach. They are all battling for a regular position on the team which will represent our country at the world championship matches for the homeless played in Edinburgh. In particular, however, their struggle off the football . eld is in attempting to somehow stabilize their existence.
