Lina lives in Port-Louis, capital of Mauritius, with her hard-working father and hypochondriac mother. Every morning it's the same routine: bring tea to her mom and dad, then head out to the square in front of Saint-Louis Cathedral. There she meets up with her friends, sherbet vendor Ram and high schooler Sanjay who has a secret crush on her. Even though she visits it daily, all Lina knows of the cathedral are its stairs, on which she sits between stints of dancing. She pays no heed to the imposing stone edifice, but, unbeknown to her, the cathedral waits for and watches over her. And it is the narrator of Lina's story. Of how one day her dancing catches the eye of a photographer...
