Mr. Frutiger, managing director of GTW, had a vision 25 years ago – and now the day of truth has finally arrived. At the appointed time, his dream will come true: a machine designed to serve globalization. While hectic prevails down in the assembly halls and a state of emergency rules among the hierarchies, Fredy, the timid trainee, stands at the heart of this chaos. He is cleaning the machine, under the rigorous scrutiny of his boss. But Fredy's thoughts are elsewhere. He is preoccupied with the fact that his girlfriend has threatened to leave him if he comes home late from work again. He cannot concentrate, the mishap with unfathomable consequences is inevitable. For some it is a fateful turn of providence, for others an embarrassing catastrophe on a global scale.
