While travelling with his wife, a Caucasian man lands in Asia. Despite her Vietnamese background, she has become a stranger in her own country after having lived in exile. While waiting for his wife at breakfast one morning, the man drifts off into another world where he cannot understand the language. He sees himself being put far out to sea, drowning and returning to his wife. At the same time, he resurrects her ancestors in his mind and observes her as she fears his disappearance. The man concocts his own film, contriving a perfect body for his wife except for her head, until she brings him back again to the banality of everyday life.
