Marcus is a Holocaust survivor. After the war, his strategy for survival had been to forget everything - as though nothing had happened, the horror had never taken place and his family had not been killed. As an old man Marcus is all of a sudden caught up by his past and wants to be buried in a Jewish graveyard. To his surprise though, he must first prove that he is Jewish. In search of proof he must return to the village of his childhood in Hungary. A young Turkish woman, Gül, agrees to accompany him. For both begins a critical examination of their own identity.
