Police detective Claudia Studer begins her new job with the homicide squad full of enthusiasm and good intentions. However, she has to contend with a grumpy and disillusioned superintendent who does not seem to think much of beginners, and especially of female inspectors. The first case has already beckoned the mismatched team, and takes them both to Sommerfeld, a psychiatric clinic. The clinic director was found dead and a patient has vanished. A complicated and most confusing situation develops out of a harmless case, and Claudia Studer sees herself confronted with an unfamiliar and menacing world in which the boundaries between madness and normality become increasingly obscure.
