Animation film festival in Annecy selects the best
Seven Swiss animation films, some of which were coproduced by Swiss production firms, have been selected for the official festival programme in Annecy and will be screened in most of the festival sections. The festival is the most important worldwide for animation films.
The 36th Annecy International Animation Film Festival (June 4-9, 2012) will screen seven Swiss films in its official programme, six in various competitions. Two films produced at the Lucerne School of Art and Design (HSLU) – “Julia und der Schrecken” by Anja Sidler and “Not About Us” by Michael Frei – are among the 52 works screened in the Graduation Films Competition. Dirk Koy’s video clip “I Should Have Known Better” for a song by the Swiss band “Five Years Older” will be screened in competition with 14 video clips. The festival had already invited an earlier animation film by Koy in 2011.
Music by “The Young Gods” and coproductions
The Swiss coproduction “Kali, le petit vampire” by the Portuguese director Regina Pessoa (coproduction: Studio GDS, Carouge), featuring music by the band “The Young Gods,” is in the running for an Annecy Cristal in the Short Animation Film Competition. The feature-length animation film “Couleur de peau: miel” by Laurent Boileau and Jung Henin (coproduction: Nadasdy Film, Geneva) is the film adaption of a comic book. It will be screened in competition and is thus in the running for a Cristal for Best Feature. Another film produced by Nadasdy Film is “Gypaetus Helveticus” by Marcel Barelli. Rounding off the strong Swiss presence in Annecy is the German-Swiss production “Glückskette” by Tobias Knipf and Andreas Kronbeck. The film will be screened in the Educational Film Award Competition.
Success for Schwizgebel’s film
Also presented at the festival will be the film “Romance,” the most recent work by the Genevese master of animation Georges Schwizgebel. The film has already been screened at 30 festivals and honoured with seven awards. Schwizgebel will accompany his film in Annecy and Zagreb, where several Swiss film productions are currently being screened.
