International distribution granted for four Swiss films
Cinema releases for the two fiction films “Der Verdingbub” by Markus Imboden in Germany and for “Nachtlärm” by Christoph Schaub in Austria, as well as for the two documentary films “Breath Made Visible” by Ruedi Gerber in France and “Die Kinder vom Napf” by Alice Schmid in Denmark and in the Netherlands, have been subsidised with a total of CHF 81,000. With this instrument, the Swiss Federal Office of Culture (SFOC), in collaboration with SWISS FILMS, improves the chances of success for Swiss film productions abroad.
The international distribution of Swiss film productions and coproductions involving a Swiss director has been subsidised since 2007. As of 2012, Swiss film producers submit their applications to the Federal Office of Culture together with foreign distributors. The SFOC committee granted support for the distribution of four Swiss film productions in this year’s second round of allocations in August 2012.
Foreign distribution companies which release Swiss film productions in cinemas abroad receive a maximum of CHF 30,000 per film and subsidised country. Grants cannot be accumulated with the MEDIA selective support programme.
Applications are reviewed by the SFOC’s Release and Diversity Committee, in collaboration with SWISS FILMS.
The next round of allocations is in September 2012.
