The important international film festivals in Venice, Toronto and San Sebastián have announced their programmes. Three Swiss productions have been selected for the competition sections.

The important international film festivals in Venice, Toronto and San Sebastián have announced their programmes. Three Swiss productions have been selected for the competition sections.

“Chrieg” by Simon Jaquemet will compete in the New Directors Section of the San Sebastián International Film Festival. The promising debut film about juvenile violence and excess was developed in Torino Film Lab and produced by Hugofilm, Zurich. “Iraqi Odyssey”, Samir’s documentary film in 3-D, has been selected to participate in the prestigious TIFF Docs Section of the Toronto International Film Festival. The coproduction by Dschoint Ventschr tells the story of Samir’s Iraqi diaspora family. It celebrates its world premiere alongside new films by Joshua Oppenheimer, Ethan Hawke, Frederick Wiseman and Nick Broomfield.

In addition, the minority Swiss coproduction “La rançon de la gloire” by Xavier Beauvois, coproduced with France and Belgium by Rita Productions, Geneva, will be screened in the International Competition at the film festival in Venice. Constantin Wulff’s documentary film “Ulrich Seidl und die Bösen Buben”, a Dschoint Ventschr coproduction with Austria and Germany, will also be presented at the Venice Film Market.
