Nine films by the Swiss filmmaker Thomas Imbach will be screened in a comprehensive retrospective called “Inside Outside – The Films of Thomas Imbach” at the prestigious Cineteca Nacional de México in Mexico City from December 5–14, 2014. In addition, Imbach is offering a masterclass at the Universidad de la comunicación called “Short Cuts for the Indie Filmmaker” on December 8.

Claudio Zilleruelo, curator of this programme, only recently became acquainted with Thomas Imbach’s films. He was particularly enthusiastic about Imbach’s fictitious autobiography “Day Is Done” at the Berlinale in 2011. Shortly thereafter, he had the opportunity to see other films by Imbach in Argentina at the Buenos Aires Festival de Cine Independiente (BAFICI), films which were programmed in collaboration with SWISS FILMS. Zilleruelo was very keen on Imbach’s filmmaking and is delighted to present nine of his works now in Mexico City. Two years ago SWISS FILMS curated a major Alain Tanner Retrospective for the programme at the renowned Cineteca Nacional.

Imbach’s latest film, “Mary Queen of Scots,” was screened at numerous film festivals and sold in eight countries. It has recently been released in the cinemas in France (November 12) as well as in Germany (November 20).
