Eight Swiss animation films in Annecy

Eight short film productions from Switzerland have been selected for the Annecy International Animation Film Festival. Five Swiss productions will be screened in various competitions, three of which have been selected for the International Short Film Competition, and one animation film in the Graduation Film Competition. Rahel Gerber’s film “Flirt” from the Lucerne School of Art and Design (HSLU) will celebrate its international premiere in Annecy. Furthermore, film director Claude Barras and film producer Max Karli (Rita Productions) are featured on the Work in Progress meeting and will provide insight into their much anticipated feature animation film “My Life As a Zucchini”. The festival in Annecy is the world’s largest and most important event for animation filmmaking. The 39th edition will take place from June 15-20 2015.

In the running for the Best International Short Film in Annecy are the short Swiss film “Queen Bum” by Maja Gehrig, which was honoured with the SSA/Suissimage Audience Award in Solothurn and recently screened at the International Short Film Festival Oberhausen, as well as the multi-award-winning film “Aubade” by the Geneva-based Italian director Mauro Carraro. In addition, the British filmmaker Paul Bush will celebrate his festival premiere in the International Short Film Competition with his short film “The Five Minute Museum”, a Swiss coproduction with England.

Switzerland is also present in the International Feature Film Competition with “Sabogal”. The Columbian-Swiss filmmaker Juan José Lozano wrote the screenplay and co-directed this Columbian feature film. Post-production of the film was also in Switzerland.

Switzerland is also present in the Graduation Film Competition with a short film. Rahel Gerber’s graduation film “Flirt” from the HSLU, coproduced by Zeitraum Film GmbH, will celebrate its world premiere in Annecy. “Dimitri à Ubuyu” by Agnès Lecreux, a French-Belgian-Swiss coproduction for will be screened in the TV Film Competition.

Moreover, the festival in Annecy will screen three Swiss film productions out of competition: “A Place I’ve Never Been” by Adrian Flury, together with the Swiss-French coproductions “Messages dans l‘air” by Isabelle Favez and “One, Two, Tree” by Yulia Aronova. The latter two films were produced by Nadasdy Film in Geneva, as well as the competition entries “Aubade” and “Dimitri à Ubuyu”.

Rita Productions provides insight into “My Life As a Zucchini”
Industry representatives will receive insight into the much anticipated Swiss coproduction with France “My Life As a Zucchini” at the Work in Progress meeting featured in Annecy at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 16. The feature-length animation film by Claude Barras, coproduced by Rita Productions in Geneva, is scheduled for release at the end of the year.
