Joel Basman nominated for German Film Award

06.05.2015

Swiss actor Joel Basman has been nominated for the German Film Award in the category of Best Supporting Actor for his role in “Wir sind jung. Wir sind stark”. The 64th German Film Awards Lola will be presented in Berlin on June 19, 2015. Winning the German Film Award would garner Basman the most prominent award in his acting career thus far.

In the German feature film “Wir sind jung. Wir sind stark” by Burhan Qurbani, Joel Basman plays a teenager from Rostock whose clique joins the protests against a home for asylum-seekers. Basman recently starred in “Dawn” by Romed Wyder (in German-speaking Switzerland Kinostart on June 26, 2015), as well as in “Als wir träumten” by Andreas Dresen, which was screened in competition at this year’s Berlinale, and “Amnesia” by Barbet Schroeder, which just celebrated its premiere in Cannes (Special Screenings).

At the age of 18, Joel Basman won the Swiss Television Award in 2008 and was selected Shooting Star by European Film Promotion EFP in the same year. This gave him the opportunity to meet with international film industry professionals and participate in networking events during the 58th Berlinale.

The German Film Awards – also called the Lola Awards – are the most highly endowed German cultural awards. The Lola is presented in up to 18 categories by the Deutsche Filmakademie, founded in 2003.
