Award-winning films by promising female directors from Switzerland will be showcased in Israel with the film programme Beyond Heidi: The New Wave of Swiss Women Filmmakers, curated by SWISS FILMS in collaboration with the Swiss Embassy in Tel Aviv. The screenings run in Israel from November 23-29, 2015.

The seven Swiss female filmmakers – Andrea Štaka, Milagros Mumenthaler, Petra Volpe, Sabine Boss, Séverine Cornamusaz, Stina Werenfels and Ursula Meier – have been invited to prestigious film festivals around the world and frequently garnered awards: Ursula Meier, for example, who won the Silver Bear at the Berlinale in 2012 for “Sister”; or Milagros Mumenthaler, who was honoured with the Pardo d'Oro for “Abrir puertas y ventanas” in Locarno in 2011. Now their most recent productions are showing in cinematheques in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and Haifa in November.

The programme opens with “Cure – The Life of Another” in the Tel Aviv Cinematheque on Monday, November 23. Andrea Štaka will present her latest film personally in Israel and participate in the opening panel discussion, together with the Israeli filmmaker Tali Shalom Ezeer (“Princess” 2014) and the Israeli film critics Lior Elefant and Pablo Utin. In addition, Štaka will hold two masterclasses at the Minshar Art School in Tel Aviv and the renowned Sam Spiegel Film School in Jerusalem.

“Cure – The Life of Another” celebrated its premiere at the Festival del Film Locarno in 2014 and was subsequently selected for numerous festivals. Štaka’s film was recently screened at the Festival of East European Cinema in Cottbus.
