Three Swiss coproductions celebrate their North American or world premieres in various sections of the Toronto International Film Festival TIFF (September 8-18, 2016).

The German-Swiss production “Marija”, coproduced by Hugofilm Productions, Zurich, celebrates its North American Premiere in the DISCOVERY section in Toronto. The first feature by Swiss director Michael Koch had its world premiere in competition at the Festival del film Locarno in August and was honoured with a Special Mention from the Ecumenical Jury. World sales are with Luxbox, Paris.

The animation film “My Life As A Zucchini” (Ma vie de Courgette) by Claude Barras will be screened in the TIFF KIDS programme. After its world premiere in Cannes the Swiss-French coproduction (Rita Productions, Geneva) went on to win the Cristal for a Feature Film and the Audience Award at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival and now has its North American premiere in Toronto. GKIDS, the acclaimed distributor of animation films, acquired North American distribution rights. World sales are handled by Indie Sales in Paris. The film is also screened at the Venice Film Festival and will be released in cinemas in Switzerland, France and Belgium in autumn. “My Life As A Zucchini” is the official Swiss submission for the “Best Foreign Language” category for the 2017 Academy Awards. I Am Not Your Negro” by the Haitian-born director Raoul Peck has its world premiere in the TIFF DOCS section. The documentary film is a coproduction between France, USA, Belgium and Switzerland. Wide House in Paris has acquired the rights for world sales. The Swiss coproducer is Close Up Films in Geneva.

Swiss film producer Christof Neracher (Hugofilm Productions) has been selected to participate in Producers Lab Toronto (September 6-9, 2016), the networking platform organized by European Film Promotion (EFP) in collaboration with the Ontario Media Development Corporation and the Toronto International Film Festival. 24 producers from Europe, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand will discuss project ideas, funding information and coproduction deals.

SWISS FILMS is present with a stand at the film market in Toronto in the TIFF Industry Office Centre in the Hyatt Regency Hotel.
