Golden Globe nomination for “My Life as a Zucchini”!

“My Life as a Zucchini” (“Ma vie de Courgette”) by Claude Barras (Rita Productions, Geneva) has been nominated for a Golden Globe Award in the category of Best Motion Picture - Animated. This is the first time that a film by a Swiss director has been nominated.

“My Life as a Zucchini” is Switzerland’s most successful animation film of all time and its most successful cinema export. It was honoured with the European Film Award for Best Animated Feature Film last Saturday and has already won numerous festival awards.

The Swiss-French coproduction is also Switzerland’s official entry in the running for an Academy Award nomination in the category of Foreign Language Film. The American distributor GKIDS has also submitted the film in the category of Best Animated Feature Film. “My Life as a Zucchini” will celebrate its US-premiere at the Sundance Film Festival (January 19.-29. 2017): The film is selected for the section «Kids».

“My Life as a Zucchini” was produced by Rita Productions (producers: Max Karli, Pauline Gygax) in coproduction with Blue Spirit Productions, Paris; Gébéka Films, Lyon and KNM, Monte Carlo. KNM belongs to Michel Merkt, from Switzerland, who also produced the nominated German film “Toni Erdmann”. World Sales were acquired by Indie Sales in Paris. Until now “Ma vie de Courgette” has been sold in more than 50 countries. The film has also been extremely successful in cinemas in many European countries.

The Golden Globes are the most important film awards in the USA, following the Oscars. They are awarded by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. Since 2007 an award for animation films has also been presented in its own category. Together with “My Life as a Zucchini”, this year’s nominated films are «Kubo and the Two Strings», «Moana», «Sing» and «Zootopia». “My Life as a Zucchini” now ranks in the top league, together with animation films by such major production houses as Walt Disney Animation Studios.

The award ceremony will be held in Beverly Hills on January 8, 2017.
