New international measures for Swiss film productions

The Swiss promotion agency SWISS FILMS expands its VOD promotional activities. In collaboration with the Swiss Federal Office of Culture, SWISS FILMS offers new VOD support measures for Swiss producers.

The Swiss promotion agency SWISS FILMS expands its VOD promotional activities. In collaboration with the Swiss Federal Office of Culture, SWISS FILMS offers new VOD support measures for Swiss producers. At the same time, SWISS FILMS launches “Non-European Distribution Support” for distributors who screen Swiss productions in cinemas in countries outside of Europe.

The “VOD Support” measure facilitates the release of Swiss film productions on approximately 70 international VOD platforms. It aims to improve international visibility for Swiss filmmaking as well as generate financial returns to Swiss film producers. Subsidies are allocated in accordance with the “Guidelines for distribution support of Swiss films on international VOD platforms”.

The measure for “Distribution Support Non-European Countries” subsidises Swiss film productions that have an high potential for international distributors in selected countries. Subsidies are allocated in accordance with the “Guidelines for distribution support of Swiss films in non-European countries”.

SWISS FILMS is responsible for the administrative implementation of the measures, in collaboration with the Swiss Federal Office of Culture (SFOC).

Presence for Swiss Filmmaking in Brazil

Switzerland will be featured as the guest country at the 41st São Paulo International Film Festival 2017. Following the strong presence at the film market in Guadalajara (March 2016), Swiss films will be prominently showcased again in Latin America. Brazil and Mexico rank among the most important export markets for European cinema.

The Mostra Internacional de Cinema São Paulo takes place from October 19 to November 1, 2017. Swiss cinema is represented with an extensive programme and a delegation of Swiss filmmakers. The film programme is supplemented with panel discussions and masterclasses for film students. Subsequent to the festival follow-up programmes with Swiss film productions will be screened in various Brazilian cities and in Portugal.

The film programme series is a SWISS FILMS initiative, in collaboration with the Mostra and Switzerland’s diplomatic representatives in Brazil. The programme augments previous activities geared towards increasing the dissemination of Swiss film productions in Latin America.
