Lora Mure-Ravaud in EFP’s Future Frames programme in Karlovy Vary
The young director Lora Mure-Ravaud will participate with her ECAL graduation film BLACKJACK in EFP’s Future Frames – Ten Filmmakers to Follow programme at the 53rd Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (KVIFF). This year a total of eight Swiss productions will be screened at the prestigious A-festival in the Czech Republic.

At the suggestion of SWISS FILMS, Lora Mure-Ravaud has been selected to participate as one of the ten promising European filmmakers at KVIFF in the Future Frames – Ten Filmmakers to Follow programme organised by the European Film Promotion EFP. In Karlovy Vary, she will present her graduation film BLACKJACK (VALET NOIR), produced by ECAL (École Cantonale d’Art de Lausanne) and Alva Film in Geneva. The 22-minute fiction film was honoured with the award for Best Swiss Film at the Internationale Kurzfilmtage Winterthur 2017 and with the SUISSIMAGE/SSA Newcomer Prize at the Solothurn Film Festival 2018. Lora Mure-Ravaud was born in 1990 in Bordeaux and studied Philosophy and Film before completing her studies in Film at the ECAL. Her first two short films JOCONDE (2015) and CÔTÉ COUR (2016) were both screened in the Short Film Competition at the Locarno Festival.
Young talented directors have the opportunity to present their films personally and establish valuable contacts in the international film industry during KVIFF. This year the award-winning Bosnian director Jasmila Zbanic, who won, among others, the Golden Bear at the Berlinale 2006 with her debut film GRBAVICA, will accompany the participants as a mentor. EFP offers its members a number of notable programmes for showcasing talent and networking, such as Shooting Stars (Berlin), Producers on the Move (Cannes) or Europe! Voices of Women in Film (Sidney), for each of which SWISS FILMS also nominates its promising talents.
Eight Swiss (co)productions in Karlovy Vary
A total of eight Swiss productions are on this year’s programme of the 53rd edition of KVIFF. Two documentary films were selected for the Documentary Films Competition and will celebrate their world premiere in Karlovy Vary: WALDEN by Daniel Zimmermann (Beauvoir Films) and the Latvian-Swiss-Czech coproduction PUTIN’S WITNESSES by Vitaly Mansky (GoldenEggProduction).
Following the festivals in Cannes, Zagreb and Annecy, Anja Kofmel’s CHRIS THE SWISS (Dschoint Ventschr Filmproduktion) will be screened in Karlovy Vary in the Another View section, which features a selection of the most remarkable contemporary films, as well as the Canadian-Swiss-French coproduction A SKIN SO SOFT by Denis Côté (Close Up Films), which celebrated its premiere in competition last year in Locarno. The two coproductions with majority Italian participation – HAPPY AS LAZZARO by Alice Rohrwacher (Amka Films Productions) and DAUGHTER OF MINE by Laura Bispuri (Bord Cadre films) – will be presented in the Horizons section. Screened in the Out of the Past section will be Robert Kolinsky’s TO MAKE A COMEDY IS NO FUN – JIRI MENZEL (Catpics).
KVIFF is one of the world’s oldest film festivals. It takes place this year from June 29 – July 7, and EFP’s Future Frames programme from July 1-4.
