Three coaches make their way through the St. Gotthard pass, arriving at a refugee camp during the night with families fleeing from Kosovo. The people of this sleepy valley are worried at the prospect of an invasion of refugees. In fact the refugees stay only a few days while waiting to be transferred to the nearby town of Chiasso, where they will be registered and then dispersed among families in different parts of Switzerland. While their integration in such a community is out of the question, the fact remains that these refugees actually help the local economy by creating jobs and providing more business for local shops. The flow of refugees continues uninterrupted for a little more than two months, a river of humanity that brings to this peaceful alpine valley mournful echos of a distant European war.
Tre torpedoni valicano il San Gottardo e arrivano di notte al campo trasportando le famiglie di profughi provenienti dal Kosovo. La gente della valle è inquieta davanti alla prospettiva di un’invasione di rifugiati. La realtà però è diversa perché i profughi restano pochi giorni in attesa di essere trasferiti a Chiasso per la registrazione e quindi di partire per raggiungere i familiari nelle varie parti della Svizzera. Non soltanto l'ipotesi di una integrazione è esclusa ma i profughi apportano benefici economici alla valle creando posti di lavoro e incrementando alcuni commerci. Per poco più di due mesi i profughi arrivano e ripartono senza sosta, un fiume umano che passa in una valle ticinese portando con sè il triste eco di una guerra europea.
