Award for fiction film “Complices” in Chicago

19.10.2009

Frédéric Mermoud was honoured with a Gold Plaque for his fiction film debut “Complices” at the 45th Chicago International Film Festival (October 8-22, 2009). Film director Mermoud attended the festival and was able to receive the award personally on October 17.
The four-member jury of the “New Directors” competition, which showcases first and second fiction films and celebrates the spirit of discovery that the Chicago Film Festival was founded on, awarded “Complices” with the third prize of this category.

“Complices” addresses the complex theme of youth caught between commercial vice and violence, without forfeiting compassion for the victims or belief in their fundamental yearning for love and escape. “We particularly admired the film’s skilful structure and excellent ensemble performances,” stated the jury. The festival in Chicago is one of the oldest film events with a competition in North America.

The film “Complices” celebrated its premiere at the 62nd Locarno International Film Festival and will soon compete in the competition of the Festival de cinéma international en Abitibi-Témiscamingue de Rouyn-Noranda in Quebec, Canada (October 31–November 5, 2009). Frédéric Mermoud will attend this festival, as well the festivals in São Paulo, Hof and Tübingen.
