Award for Swiss documentary film in Normandy

The documentary film “Article 43“ by film director Denise Gilliand was awarded the Youth Jury Award at the 4th Festival du film d'éducation in Evreux (November 12-15, 2008). Thirty-five films in all genres and lengths were presented at the festival, which is devoted to education.
The film “Article 43” is the chronicle of a film workshop, which was carried out in a penal institution with felons. The creative process and the encounters with the filmmakers offered the inmates other prospects and an occasion to speak openly about their crimes. Some of them do not know idea when they will be released from prison, for they are subject to Article 43 of the former penal code, which allows dangerous criminals to be imprisoned for an indeterminate period of time. The film was released in cinemas in the French-speaking region of Switzerland in October.
