Awarded Swiss Films at the 57th Locarno International Film Festival

Four short films and two Swiss co-productions received awards at the 57th edition of the Locarno International Film Festival (August 4 – 14, 2004).
In the Leopards of Tomorrow section, in the category New Swiss Talents, the jury bestowed the Pardino d’Oro (SRG SSR idée Suisse prize of CHF 6,000 for a Swiss film) to the movie “Chyenne” by Alexander Meyer.

The Silver Leopard (Kodak prize of film stock with a value of CHF 6,000 for a Swiss film) went to the short film “Wackelkontakt” (Loose contact) by Ralph Etter, which also received the Cinema e Gioventu prize awarded by the youth jury.

The Action Light pour le Meilleur Espoir Suisse prize (in the form of technical services with a value of CHF 33,000) was given to the film “Paul Maillard, facteur de langue de bois” by Grégoire Mayor.

The Film and Video Subtitling Prize went to the short film “Demain J’arrête” (Tomorrow I’ll stop) by Nicole Borgeat.

In the Leopards section, category Francophone Countries, the Golden Leopard (Pardino d’Oro, SRG SSR idée Suisse prize for a French language film with a value of CHF 6,000) was awarded to the Belgian-French-Swiss production “Dans l’ombre” (In the shadow) by Olivier Masset-Depasse. This film was co-produced by PCT Cinéma-Télévision for Switzerland.

In addition, the CICAE/ARTE jury (Confédération Internationale des Cinémas d’Art et d’Essai Européens) bestowed its prize to the long feature film “Okhotnik” (The Hunter) by Serik Aprymov which ran in the international competition. This film from Kazakhstan was co-produced by Japan, France, Holland, and Switzerland.
