“Behind me”: Opening in German and Austrian movie theatres

26.09.2003

The German premiere of the documentary film “Behind me” by Norbert Wiedmer was held in Freiburg im Breisgau on Thursday, September 25, 2003. Bruno Ganz, who is the subject of the film, was present for the event. The distribution company Kool, whose main office is also in Freiburg, is bringing six prints of the film to theatres in Berlin, Bonn, Hamburg, Cologne, Munich, and Stuttgart. And in Austria, the film’s release is scheduled for this fall with two additional prints (Distributor: Filmladen, Vienna).
“Behind Me” originally premiered at the Locarno Film Festival in the summer of 2002 as part of the “Critics’ Week” and was consequently shown in movie theaters in the German speaking part of Switzerland. It’s French premiere in Marseille in June 2003 was cancelled at the last minute due to a freelancers’ strike. There are large expectations for the film’s participation at the 44th Festival dei Popoli in Florence (November 28 – December 4, 2003) and its portrayal of the actor Bruno Ganz, given this established Italian documentary film festival is dedicating a part of its program to the topic of “theatre and film”.
