Peter Liechti’s film “Vaters Garten - Die Liebe meiner Eltern” celebrated its world premiere in the Forum section at the Berlinale and was honoured with the award from the “Tagesspiegel” Readers’ Jury. The film’s promising career was thus launched in Berlin, where the Swiss cineaste accepted the award personally on February 16.

The nine-member Readers’ Jury of the “Tagespiegel,” the Berlin-based national daily newspaper, selected the film “Vaters Garten – Die Liebe meiner Eltern” as Best Film in the Forum section. Liechti’s most recent work portrays the director’s reunion with his elderly parents after decades of avoiding them. The film convinced the jury “due to its honesty, the balancing act between a tender portrait while revealing one’s own vulnerability. The filmmaker does not deride his parents, but rather provides us with an intimate glimpse of their life. The puppet figures are successfully used in the film device as an element of abstraction. “Vaters Garten” raises questions which concern all of us.”

Promising career launch
The film successfully celebrated its world premiere at the 63rd International Film Festival Berlin (February 7-17, 2013) in the Forum section. The renowned cineaste Peter Liechti (“The Sound Of Insects,” “Hans im Glück,” “Signers Koffer,” among others) presented his film to the audiences in Berlin at four screenings. The film was exceedingly well received by the audiences and media. German film distributors are just as interested in the film as numerous international film festivals.
