«Building the Gherkin» awarded at FIFA in Montreal

At the 24th International Festival of Films on Art (FIFA) in Montreal, which ended on March 19, 2006, the documentary film «Buidling the Gherkin» by Mirjam von Arx (Production: Ican Film, Zurich), was given the award for «Best Reportage». The filmmaker was in attendance for the award ceremony.
The festival presented 41 films in the international competition, representing all artistic disciplines. The 5-member jury was presided over by filmmaker, script writer, and producer Paul Smaczny. «Building the Gherkin» received a great audience response, and consequently an additional screening was scheduled for March 19th.
The documentary film follows the construction of the gigantic and controversial tower, “The Gherkin”, by British star architect Norman Foster in London, from the planning to the moving in phase in 2004.
“Building the Gherkin” will be shown in German cinemas starting in May, and will be presented at the 6th Architectural Film Days at the Film Museum Munich. As part of a FIFA winner’s tour, the film will be shown in New York in 2006.
