Eight Swiss films at festival in Sitges (Spain)

Eight feature-length and short film productions from Switzerland will be screened at the prestigious Sitges International Fantastic Festival Film of Catalonia in (October 6-16, 2011).

Eight feature-length and short film productions from Switzerland will be screened at the prestigious Sitges International Fantastic Festival Film of Catalonia in (October 6-16, 2011). Three coproduction feature films will compete against 32 other films in the festival’s Official Fantàstic Selection: “Tannöd” by Bettina Oberli (Hugo Film, Zurich); “Hell” by Tim Fehlbaum (Vega Film, Zurich); and “Carré blanc” by French director Jean-Baptiste Léonetti (Tarantula Suisse, Geneva). Three short films will also be screened in further competition programmes, including the short film “Employé du mois” by Olivier Beguin in the festival’s Official Fantàstic Shorts.

Three other films screened in Sitges include: "Le lac noir" by Victor Jaquier; "The Lost Town Of Switez" by Polish director Kamil Polak (coproduction: Archangel Film Group, Savosa); as well as the most recent opus by the Hungarian maestro Béla Tarr "The Turin Horse" (coproduction Vega Film, Zurich). Directors Olivier Beguin and Victor Jaquier will attend the Catalonian festival, thanks to the support from SWISS FILMS, the promotion agency.

The festival, founded in 1968, is accredited by the International Federation of Film Producers Associations (FIAPF) and is the most important festival worldwide for the fantasy film genre. It is also one of the nine festivals that collaborates with the European Federation of Fantasy Film Festivals (E.F.F.F.F) and has awarded the "Mélies d'or" for Best European Motion Picture and Best Short Film since 2008. This year the Swiss short film "Yuri Lennon's Landing On Alpha 46" by Anthony Vouardoux has been nominated for this award.
