“Elisabeth Kübler-Ross” – a success story at home and abroad

A total of 210,000 moviegoers have already seen the documentary film by Stefan Haupt which is dedicated to the famous expert on death and dying Elisabeth Kübler-Ross: in Germany, the 100,000th viewer was celebrated at the City Cinema Munich in the beginning of March 2004, while the number of visitors has since risen to 110,000 (Distribution: Salzgeber, Berlin, movie release: July 2003). In Austria, more than 30,000 people have seen the film (Distribution: Polyfilm Vianna, movie relase: November 2003), and in Switzerland 70,000 tickets have been sold (Distribution: Frenetic Films Zurich, movie release: January 2003). The variety and number of screening venues is remarkable: “Elisabeth Kübler-Ross – Facing Death” has screened in large cities as well as rural villages. The film‘s popularity often surpasses the appeal of US blockbusters in small and medium-size towns, and many movie theatres have scheduled the film for a second or even third showing due to its large success. Its US release is planned for the May 2004.
The demand for copies of “Elisabeth Kübler-Ross – Facing Death” (Production: Fontana Film Zurich) has been high in the nearly 100 cities in Germany where the films has been screening: initially starting with 10 copies of the movie, the number soon had to be increased to 14, and a handful of DVD copies for special screenings were also added. Through the end of May, all copies will be on tour in Germany as well as in Austria, where five copies have been shown in about 40 cities thus far.

In May, the movie portrait of the 77-year-old Elisabeth Kübler-Ross, who lives in seclusion in the Arizona desert, is planned for the United States in San Francisco, California (Distribution: First Run/Icarus Films). The Swiss world distributor First Hand Films has also sold screening rights to the televison stations Arte and ORF, and the DVD version of the film has been released for the Swiss market by Warner Home Video.
