#FEMALE PLEASURE wins Golden Romy for Best Cinema Documentary

The multi-award-winning Swiss-German coproduction #FEMALE PLEASURE by Barbara Miller has been honoured with the Romy Film and Television Award in Austria for Best Cinema Documentary from a German-speaking country.

The multi-award-winning Swiss-German coproduction #FEMALE PLEASURE by Barbara Miller has been honoured with the Romy Film and Television Award in Austria for Best Cinema Documentary from a German-speaking country. The documentary film has not only been selected for major international festivals, but also been extremely successful in cinemas. It has already recorded ticket sales of more than 60,000 in Switzerland, and well over 100,000 in Germany and Austria. This year marked the 30th edition of the Austrian Film and Television Awards.

#FEMALE PLEASURE by Barbara Miller accompanies five extraordinary women with different religious backgrounds in their struggle for equal relationships between men and women and for self-determined female sexuality. The documentary film, produced by Mons Veneris Films, Das Kollektiv für audiovisuelle Werke GmbH and Indi Film, celebrated its world premiere in the Semaine de la critique at the Locarno Film Festival in 2018 and won the Zonta Club Award.

The successful Swiss-German coproduction was screened thereafter at prestigious international documentary film festivals, including DOK Leipzig, IDFA in Amsterdam, Thessaloniki Documentary Film Festival and most recently at Visions du Réel in Nyon. #FEMALE PLEASURE was honoured with the Special Prize of the Interreligious Jury in Leipzig, as well as the Amnesty International Award and the WIFT (Women in Film and Television) Award 2019 in Thessaloniki.

Furthermore, #FEMALE PLEASURE by Barbara Miller was selected for this year’s European Film Promotion Showcase, called “The Changing Face of Europe”, at the Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival in Toronto held at the end of April. The programme highlights ten outstanding European films that address issues of current concern and are of particular interest for North American audiences. With support from SWISS FILMS, Barbara Miller will participate in the EFP Showcase in Toronto.

Tremendous success in cinemas as well

#FEMALE PLEASURE has been screened in Swiss cinemas for 20 weeks and, with tickets sales of more than 60,000, it is currently the most successful documentary film in Switzerland. The film about five courageous women has also drawn a great deal of attention in cinemas abroad, with over 150,000 viewers in Germany and Austria together. In May #FEMALE PLEASURE will be released in cinemas in France and Spain, as well as in Poland in the near future.
