Internationale Kurzfilmtage Winterthur 2021

Major focus on Swiss cinema

09.11.2021

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the Internationale Kurzfilmtage Winterthur (November 9-14, 2021). To celebrate this special occasion, the festival will feature Swiss filmmaking from the last 60 years in its Major Focus programme. Moreover, 19 films will be screened in the Swiss Competition, five of them simultaneously in the International Competition. SWISS FILMS is participating in the Industry Lab with a panel, together with an invitation to the annual Previews.

The five films selected for both the Swiss and the International Competition include: Enea Zucchetti’s experimental documentary film PIAZZALE D'ITALIA; Jela Hasler’s ON SOLID GROUND, which celebrated its premiere in the Semaine Internationale de la Critique in Cannes; Adrian Flury’s experimental animation film ARREST IN FLIGHT; the Argentinian-Swiss short film CRIATURA, which was honoured with the Pardino d’oro in Locarno; and the experimental film WHITE SHADOW by Annelore Schneider and Claude Piguet.

The International Short Film Festival Winterthur is an Oscar, Bafta and EFA qualifiying festival.

“La Suisse n’existe pas” - or does it?

In addition to another 14 short films in the Swiss Competition, numerous current Swiss short films will be screened in the “Züri Shorts” and “Shorts Matter” programmes, as well as in the Sparks Competition.

The eight programmes comprising the “La Suisse n’existe pas” major focus look back on the multifaceted Swiss filmmaking from the last 60 years with 21 short films. Four of these programmes were supported by SWISS FILMS. On the Swiss Film School Day, Switzerland’s most important Bachelor study programmes will present their current productions to an international jury.

SWISS FILMS at the Industry Lab and Previews As part of the Industry Lab, the meeting place for the international short film industry, SWISS FILMS will present the Award Season panel on November 12. International and Swiss experts will share their experiences with campaigns for short films nominated for such prestigious film awards as the Oscars or the European Film Award. The discussion will be moderated by Laura Daniel (Consultant Talent & Awards) and Sylvain Vaucher (Consultant Short Films) from SWISS FILMS. As every year, SWISS FILMS organises the SWISS FILMS Previews at the Kurzfilmtage in Winterthur. Film directors and producers present four short films as works-in-progress. The Previews offer sales and festival delegates an exclusive opportunity to discover new short films from Switzerland.

In collaboration with UniFrance, Wallonie Bruxelles Images and SODEC Québec, SWISS FILMS invites international festival delegates, filmmakers and producers to network at the Industry Brunch.
